10 Last-Minute Summer Bucket List Items

Children may be back in school and Labor Day sales may be ending, but the autumnal solstice isn’t until September 23rd - meaning that summer isn’t over yet! We’ve curated a list of 10 last-minute summer bucket list items to round out the season. What we love about many of these activities is that they may be even more enjoyable with cooler, drier weather and less crowds. Happy adventuring!

  1. Dive into a lake. Water temperatures may still be warm enough for you to enjoy one last dip. So grab your floats and water skis, and head to the lake!
  2. Visit a theme park. Tickets may be more affordable in September, and lines will certainly be less daunting since school has begun.
  3. Shop at your local farmers market. There’s a wide range of farm-fresh goods still available, from tomatoes to apples, flowers to goat cheeses, and so much more!

  4. Watch an outdoor movie. Films shown outdoors are often free, and they are usually either family-friendly or timeless classics that will get you reminiscing about the good ol’ days.
  5. Listen to a concert in the park. Similarly, concerts in public parks are often free. Jazz, bluegrass, and cover bands are popular genres for these types of events!

  6. Try a new restaurant with outdoor seating. Take advantage of being able to comfortably eat outside for the next month, and support a local restaurant while you’re at it!
  7. Finish a novel. Get closure on a book you’re already reading, or visit a bookstore’s “summer reads” section for fresh inspiration.

  8. Go camping. With slightly cooler weather, hiking around a state or national park will be more enjoyable. Even so, September is usually still warm enough to wear short sleeves and use your four season tent. It’s the best of both worlds!
  9. Have one last s’more (or two!). Have you tried stuffing a s’more with peanut butter? With blackberries? With a peppermint patty? If you answered “no” to any of the above, that’s reason enough to light up the bonfire!

  10. Write your fall bucket list! What is it that you want to accomplish in the coming months? Who do you want to meet, and what do you want to experience? Use this seasonal transition as a time to introspect and get excited for the fall!
